引言 儒学进一步发展的契机何在?笔者近年来因在哈佛求学之便,与第三代新儒家代表人物杜维明先生时有交谈。杜先生认为:目前儒学的进一步发展有一个“十年机缘”。十年,作为一个时间跨度在人类历史中稍纵即逝,但这个儒学发展机缘已呼之欲出,就看我们能不能抓得住。 这将是跨越世界的十年! 一个世纪以来,儒学的命运与中国现代化的进程相消长。在本世纪初“打倒孔家店”的呼声中,儒学从两千年官方意识形态的正统席上游离出来,徘徊于少数与五四文化精英具有同等历史担待的学人之笔端。与五四时期主流知识分子决裂于传统的时代精神迥然一去的是,这一数十年以后才被人们认为“当代新儒家”的文化思潮,在其造端者那里就毫不含混地将中国文化现代再生的契机直指“晚周之遗轨”(熊十力语),直指孔子所奠定的儒家传统。几十年来,这一思潮以学统的形式一系相承,不绝如缕,并在空间上呈现由中国本土向港台的漂移。面对本世纪初以来应接不暇的种种现代化理论,20世纪儒学之惨淡经营较之于北宋初年“儒门淡泊,收拾不住”的景况远为甚矣。 ISBN:7-5004-2874-X

儒家人文精神与文明对话——杜维明岳麓书院演讲笔录 肖永明 整理 朱院长、湖南卫视和岳麓书院的老师、同学和朋友们: 大家好! 我感到万分荣幸,能够有这个难得的机会,在千年学府,在对儒家人文精神作出极大贡献的岳麓书院,提出文明对话的构想。就在今年10月7号到10号,我在北京参加了孔子诞辰2550周年的国际学术讨论会。这是一次由国际儒联主持的,有17个国家的260多位学者参加的学术盛会。会议总共提出了160多篇论文,对儒家从曲阜所谓洙泗源流发展到中原文明,然后从中国发展到东亚,从亚洲面向全球,也就是说儒学发展的所谓三期,都作了超时代、跨文化的多学科的探索与研究。10月13号,在贵阳参加了以王阳明的“龙场顿悟”为主题的文化节。在修文县,也就是阳明顿悟的龙场,和贵州的许多学者乃至成千上万的同胞,一起探讨了王阳明心学的价值,比如说“知行合一”、“致良知”和“事上磨练”。1996年我到贵阳的时候还没有多少人知道王阳明,这些年大家对他都耳熟能详,对儒学情况已经有了进一步的了解。前两天,我们在武汉和国内外的一些著名学者,像饶宗颐、任继愈、庞朴、裘锡奎、李学勤等一起参加了有关郭店楚暮出土竹简的学术讨论会,对儒家原始的古典形态特别是《论语》《大学》《中庸》《孟子》所体现的人文精神进行了一些诠释和了解。郭店的出土材料使我们对孔子的第一代学生所提出的一些问题有了一些文献上的证据。
