2011年,《开放时代》,杜维明:儒家心性之学的当代意义
[内容提要]哲学的精神转向是儒家心性之学对于当代世界的一个重要贡献。首先,从具 体问题以及哲学研究的例子出发,讨论知识与智慧的关系以及智慧的独特之处,能够看 到精神性的重要性,这既是儒家一直以来的核心观念,也是对近几百年来很有力量的凡 俗的人文主义的一种批判反思。其次,回顾这半个多世纪哲学研究的主要发展,能够发现 精神转向逐渐成为学术研究的一个重要方向,正在进行启蒙反思的西方知识界尤其如 此。最后,落实到儒家心性之学上来,可以看到儒家思想与当代哲学的精神转向非常契 合。因此,儒学对于 21 世纪有非常重要的意义,比如可以作为对话的中介来面对全球化, 可以促进对自然环境的关怀等等。 [关键词]知识 智慧 精神性 儒家 心性之学 今天能在具有历史意义的中山大学小礼堂和各位交流,讨论 21 世纪儒家心性之学 的当代意义,讲我所谓的“哲学的精神转向”,确实很荣幸。我这次的报告,主要讨论一些 个人感受,而不是很严肃的哲学主题报告。但我使用“个人”,有特别的意义,对此我在英 语世界以及日本做报告时曾经讲到过。我认为个人(personal),与私我(private)有很大不 同。如果现在我有一些自己的感受,这是属于私我的,比如我的日记,那么就不愿意和任 何人分享。假如是“个人”的,则表示我有一些存在的感受,我不仅愿意跟各位分享,而且, 我觉得我的观点可以有公共性,有透明度,并且有信赖度。同时,我还认为这些看法可以 被别人批评,比如赞成或反对这种看法,这对我来说,都是一种启发。所以,个人和私我有 很大不同,我今天讲的就是“个人”的感受。另外,一般讲起来,哲学只是在哲学系算专业, 但我今天讲得比较宽,可以说是对哲学的感受。所以,这次报告不只是哲学,而是关联到 很多不同领域,特别是宗教学、文化人类学、深度心理学、政治学、社会思想等,这都和哲 学有关系。

中国日报网消息:英文《中国日报》9月29日报道:能在一个如此高雅的环境里,面 对如此卓越的听众,来谈一个如此合时宜的话题,我感到十分地荣幸和高兴。作为一名亚 洲与比较哲学以及中国文化的学生,并怀有对儒家人文主义现代转换的关注,我非常感兴 趣的是,你们对于我个人观察的一些关键问题的反应,比如“文化中国”背景下做中国人的 意义,东亚现代性特征的界定,以及“亚洲价值”与新世界秩序建构的相关性等问题。 显而易见的是,世界还远未达到对话的、和谐的、和平的状态。全球化扩大和加深着 地球每个角落人们之间的互联性与团结性, 而世界作为一个“地球村”的构想可使这一共享的 渴望大大加强。事实上,从20世纪60年代起,当我们的肉眼为宇航员超越性的凝视所开 启,能够在人类历史上第一次全方位地看见这蔚蓝色的地球时,就已经知道在这个作为我 们终极拯救的救生艇——地球之上,我们是共生共荣、相互依存的。在巴黎,东京,北 京,新德里,莫斯科以及伊斯坦布尔,越来越多的孩子开始意识到所有自然资源,从土壤 到空气都是极为有限的。如果我们不悉心呵护我们的地球家园,那么上帝王国或彼岸世界 也不会自动出现来拯救我们。我们常常教育年轻人爱自己的邻居,尊重差异,设身处地为 他人考虑,这是因为,作为受过西方现代启蒙思想洗礼以及良好教育且思想开明的学生, 我们应该珍惜理智终将胜于暴力和偏执的希望,而这种稳定性而非混乱则将成为国际社会 的特征。
