讲座提纲： It is important to celebrate philosophy’s role as a public discourse in a wo rld that can benefit greatly from it. First half of the talk shall consider t he obstacles to the realization of this role, first, from within philosophy i tself and second, from “outside” philosophy. The second half of the talk sh all explore the contemporary phenomenon of the “One World” that we are incr easingly becoming, with a view to opening up the prospect of a public philoso phical discourse that, while not neglecting the special features and problems of individual nations and cultures, nevertheless aspires to a global relevan ce for which it is uniquely.
